The Internet defines 'Brand Photography' as a suite of bespoke images used to represent companies and form visual identities for marketing materials.

In just a few years of working as a portrait photographer, I noticed a pattern that’s very common when I ask business owners about their brand to help me conceptualize the visuals as a photographer. Many entrepreneurs would talk about a vision that is completely different from their brand’s core.

The visuals aimed to use for their campaigns, photos, and websites don’t give out the brand’s essence and when asked about the values of their brand, many hesitate– giving the clue that they don’t have a strong relationship with their brand.

But here’s what most people don’t understand. A brand is not a name, logo, tagline, slogan, product, ads or website. These are just tools that people use to bring out the essence of the brand that aims to influence the consumer's experience. They are used for marketing and communications efforts. A brand is much bigger than that!

I wasn’t satisfied with just taking their photos and later on watching them use those photos to campaigns that didn’t quite fit their brand identity. I truly wanted success and results for my clients.

While I told myself that I’m not a marketer and it takes more than a photo to drive results, I decided to take my knowledge in brand identity and combine it with what I already do!

It’s important for me that when I have conversations about their outer vision, that I’m STILL aligning with their brand values which is the core of their brand. This comes with strategy– and to have a good strategy, one must have an understanding and a connection of their own brand.

My clients are already investing their time and money to put out a visual, why not do it right? As a photographer who already takes on the task to help business owners with their vision by putting together mood boards, budgeting for props, and taking physical effort to put it all together, I also care about my client’s outcome.

Just like graphic designers, they would have a basic understanding of design and what fonts, colours, and details represent the brand best. It’s the same with a photographer that plans the setting, colour schemes, poses and the people that we bring infront of the camera.

I don’t just take your pictures! I can also put together a brand guideline and you can use this to show your graphic designer, marketer, and everyone else who wants a CLEAR understanding of your Brand Identity.

Because when you understand your brand, you understand your audience and that’s where long term success is guaranteed to sprout from.
